The first photographic image created by Joseph Niépce in 1824. Niépce meticulously coated a pewter plate with bitumen of Judea and waited eight-hours for the natural light to render a new surface onto the plate. Once finished, Niépce washed the plate with lavender and petroleum and watched as the first photograph emerged before his eyes.
