Course Description
This course explores expression of art through the use of modern and innovative technology. In addition to the observation of society’s manipulation of image and video, students will be experimenting with creation through the use of iMovie, Garage Band, Digital Cameras, video production and a variety of other innovative tools. Students will learn to express their own ideas through harnessing Media, building on their ability to communicate in the 21st century. Working both individually and collaboratively, students will be tasked with creating a final project; creating a multimedia project to share a message of importance to the suffield community.

We will be working with found imagery, sound and video as WELL as creating these things- DON’T WORRY if you haven’t taken a photography class before! Have you ever used the camera on your phone before? Do you use Instagram? What type of pictures do you take on Instagram? Do you use twitter? What do you tweet about? You are not only surrounded by media every day but you are also producing media non stop!

Equipment
You are not required to bring your own camera, but it would be very helpful if you could as students will need to share otherwise. I would recommend just buying a used one. We will be working with digital SLR cameras and the camera should have the ability to take HD video. I also would recommend just buying a used camera until you are sure you want to continue your work in Media Arts. You can also use your phone camera or any other camera that can take imagery and video.
